I’m pretty excited to link up {my first time ever} with 4th Grade Frolics today for the newest edition of Monday Made It!
I’ve spent up until this point of my summer thinking about school, making lots of resources, organizing my classroom, and so on and so forth. With Back-to-School season right around the corner (eek!) I told myself I had to take a break…because soon there won’t be much of a chance. I’m not letting myself go in to my classroom for a few more weeks or I don’t think I’ll get the mental break I really need. This is soooo hard to do because I want to take the time I have now to get ahead for once in my life, but I know I also need to take care of myself and relax a bit.
So, with that being said, my Made It for today is not for my classroom (though I may just steal it away to my classroom once I allow myself to go back), but rather for my front door!
My husband is a college student and we live in rather unstylish student family housing. Anything we can do to spruce the place up is fine by me! This wreath has done just the trick and is really very quick, easy, cheap (remember how my husband is a college student and I am a school teacher?), and very fun and satisfying to make. It is pretty fool-proof, too! Here was my method!
First you’ll need a few supplies. I got all of this at Hobby Lobby for under ten dollars!
-1/3 yard fabric (I used a chevron duckcloth, the texture is great!)
-2 rectangles craft felt–
-regular sewing pins-
1. Cut your fabric into long strips, about 3 inches in width. Don’t worry too much about the straightness of the strips. You can just eyeball it!
2. Pin the end of one strip at a diagonal on your wreath form.
3. Beginning wrapping the strip around the wreath form in a diagonal sort of manner, pinning on the right edge. Make sure you overlap that pin on the next wrap around so no one can see it!
4. When you get to the end (or the beginning…) of your wrapping, secure the end with several pins like so:
5. Next we get to that beautiful fluffy ruffly gray stuff on the side. Cut your felt squares into circles. You can use the bottom of a cup to make perfect circles or just eyeball it again…which is what I did. Do I just sound plain lazy? I actually just wanted a more varied look with the sizes of my circles. Anywho, you can cut as few or as many as you like. I used about 24.
Grab a circle and fold it in half…
and then in quarters…
Stick a pin in the folded part of your quarter-circle and pin right into the wreath form.
Keep pinning until you get your desired look.
When you’re satisfied with your fluffy felt stuff, wrap a ribbon around the top and tie or tape at the top of your door. You could also use a metal wreath hanger available at craft stories, but I prefer the ribbon look.
And there you have it! My ugly door might be slightly less ugly now!

Love the wreath! You could do so many different fabrics and change it out as you like. Love the "fluffy felt stuff", too. It really ties it all together.

I'm so glad you like it! And don't worry, I am hopeless without picture instructions so I thought I'd better put them in!
